The September 17, 2015 meeting of the Henderson Business and Professional Women's Club was held in the offices of Triangle North Healthcare Foundation on Garnett Street. Following an invocation by Donna Stearns and a pizza buffet, the club heard a presentation "Protecting Your Identity and Your Money" by guest speaker Kim Jordan, VP/Business Banker for Benchmark Community Bank. Jordan provided an overview of the five common types of identity theft, how each type is damaging, steps to take if you are a victim of identity theft and tips for preventing identity theft. She supplied the group with detailed handouts and lists of helpful websites. A lively discussion included specific examples of identity theft in the local area as reported by members as well as Jordan.
A business session followed the presentation. Maria Bailey has completed and presented a beautiful beige and brown crocheted afghan to be raffled as the club fundraiser. Tickets will be distributed at the October meeting and the drawing will be held during the December gathering. Members welcomed two guests, Rose Marie Baker from Vance Granville Community College and Phyllis Newcomb from Vance County Schools. Members were reminded that the October meeting will be a covered dish at the Triangle North Healthcare Foundation offices. The meeting adjourned with the recitation of the club Collect.
